Hello from the Summer Slacker

Thursday, Jul 09

My only hope is that all of you are slacking off a little bit, too.  Otherwise, I will be consumed by guilt.  🙂
I had a good day at Weight Watchers yesterday; down 1.4 pounds.  YES!  At long last, I seem to be headed in the right direction again.  As I’ve probably mentioned, I’ve been okay with the numbers on the scale for a while now–I’ve taken off 50 pounds, after all, and even better, I’ve kept them off.  I think I needed that period in between, if only to adjust to a new normal.  Now, however, I feel ready to move on, take off those last few pounds, and concentrate on keeping them off.  🙂  I know I can do that IF I stay accountable and inspired and, for me, that means faithfully attending those meetings.  Stepping on that darn scale every Wednesday.
I wear one of those Activelink bracelets, and it measures how many hours I sleep at night (very important) and, of course, my activity levels for the day.  I’ve been hitting 100% for weeks now, and that makes me very happy.  I usually ride 30 to 40 minutes on my faithful exercise bike, sometimes all at once, sometimes in increments, and of course I walk the D.O.G. twice a day.  I get a surprising number of activity points just by walking from one part of the house to another–this place is big, yes, but it’s not THAT big.  🙂  Last night, I discovered that moving around the backyard, watering plants (we’re in the midst of a bad drought, not just in Spokane, but all over the Western United States and Canada), racks up a point or two as well.  (For those of you who don’t speak Weight Watcherize, we count points instead of calories, and activity points are awarded for just about any kind of exercise.  In my case, hitting 100% means I’ve earned 9 points, over and above the ones I get anyway.)
I’m finishing up revisions on ONCE A RANCHER at the moment, and will begin work on the next book in the trilogy, ALWAYS A COWBOY, immediately after I send this manuscript off to my editor.  And that first Civil War book is percolating in the back of my brain, too, about to burst onto the screen!
I’m often asked about the Hallmark movie/TV series project, so I asked my agent, and she asked Hallmark, and here’s the answer, such as it is: the project is still on.  They’re rewriting the script.
Since I truly believe that, as Phyllis A Whitney said years ago, good things aren’t written, they’re rewritten, I can deal with the delay.  (Mostly.)  As my 96 year old aunt keeps reminding me, they need to get this show on the road, so she can watch it.  🙂
In closing, a very happy birthday to my nephew, Jesse Lang.
