What a week–and winners

Monday, Aug 17

First, our customary Monday morning announcement of this week’s winners: Belinda Sawyers and Kathryn Riley.  Thank you, ladies.  Your books will be on their way soon.  For the benefit of new arrivals, there is a new contest underway as of now.  All you have to do to enter is comment; two winners will be chosen at random, notified, and announced right here in this same space next Monday.  The prizes, as always, are autographed copies of my latest novel.
Now, for the ‘what a week’ part.  🙂  I was just recovering from a nasty cough/cold combo when my mother came down with the same thing.  We brought her straight to the Triple L, set her up in the best guestroom, all the stuff one does when their mama is ailing.  She saw her doctor, and we learned the diagnosis: early pnuemonia.  With antibiotics, cough syrup and a lot of rest, she recovered sufficently to go back to her condo on Saturday–with strict orders not to worry about “bothering” us when she gets to feeling peaky.  It was nice to be able to take care of Mom for a while–especially considering that she took care of me, as well as my sibs, when it counted.  Mom is funny, quick-witted, and generally good company.
Since I sleep on another floor, I invested in a set of baby monitors, so I’d know if she needed help in the night or something.  We had to play with the devices a little, of course–I would key my mic and say, “Earth to the Mothership–What’s going on down there?” or some other nonsense.  And who could miss such an opportunity to use phrases like, “Roger that, Houston” or “Over and out.”
Over and out.  🙂
