The Lael/Kramer clan met at the Longhorn Barbecue on Saturday morning, for breakfast, storytelling, joking around, and lots of hugging. 🙂 Cousin Barbara Lynn did a wonderful presentation on our ancestors–all the way back to the Revolutionary War. We’ve always bragged that we were related to Daniel Boone; alas, the “Lales” were neighbors to the Boones. Still makes a great story, though. Calvin, back there a few “greats”, was in the Civil War, a Confederate, captured early on. He lived into his seventies, though, which is a lot more than many veterans of that conflict could say.
Anyway, the food was good and the company was even better–
Sally and I did some thrift-store shopping in the afternoon–she buys sweaters and repurposes them into fabulous coats–and I proved that I am indeed my mother’s daughter. I don’t normally shop at Goodwill or Value Village, not because I’m a snob, but because I have so much junk of my own–in other words, I should be donating, not buying. But I came across these books–hardcovers, favorites no longer readily available, like Thomas B. Costain’s “The Chalice”, the original “Lake Woebegone Days”, a very nice Mary Ann Williams book about making miracles, a thick and meaty historical novel by Thomas Tryon–I’m set for the winter. 🙂
Saturday evening, we all returned to the Longhorn for a fabulous supper and more visiting. By the time it was over, I was exhausted, but happily so.
Keep those comments coming. On Wednesday, I will announce two winners.
