Day 12

Tuesday, Apr 28

Day 12 of WHAT, you ask, as you well might.  🙂  The answer is, I’ve discovered a devotional series called, “45 Days With”, and I’m well into “45 Days With Abraham Lincoln”.  There are numerous other books in the series, and I have a stack of them waiting for their turn in the rotation.  (Being an ADD type, my instinct is to read about six of them at once, but I am determined to concentrate on one at a time and give it my full attention.)  Anyway, each day offers an inspirational quote, and the facing page is for journaling.  The quote had to do with the importance understanding the history of a particular place, and the assignment was to sit somewhere outside for 15 minutes and try to sense what might have gone on in that spot.  Since I am blessed to live in the country, I chose my back yard, pulled up a lawn chair, and planted my bare feet in the grass.  Images began to roll through my mind (heck, I’m a writer.  This happens all the time)–I saw woods and grass, field mice and robins and deer, and centuries of pristine rain and snowy winters.  I saw the occasional forest fire; part of the cycle of death and rebirth.  All in all, it was a wonderful experience.  I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for Mother Earth and all her life-giving gifts—sunshine, air, food and water, and the magnificent creatures with whom we are privileged to share this miraculous planet.
How will I squeeze all that into my gratitude journal?  I’ll do my best, but there’s another place to record these blessings, too–in my heart.
Tomorrow is Weight Watchers.
