Happy Independence Day!

Saturday, Jul 04

Since my summer blog schedule seems to be a bit sketchy, and since I wanted to wish you the best Fourth of July ever, here I am, blogging on a Saturday.
Here in our area, the grass is dry as tinder and there is an ever-present danger of fire.  For that reason, there will be no fireworks set off on the Triple L.  The heat is enervating, so Bernice, Jitterbug and I will be staying inside, where it’s cool.
Which DOESN’T mean we won’t be celebrating liberty and all its blessings.  🙂  We’re just setting off sparklers in our hearts instead of the yard.  🙂
In these troubled times, it would be easy to become discouraged with phrases like, “Liberty and Justice for all”, because so often that doesn’t seem to be the case.  Humbly, I offer this: Liberty, like life, is about the journey, not just the destination.  The important thing is to keep working toward the ideals our forefathers set down in the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights–there were obvious flaws in the follow-through, then as now, but a beginning was made.  Generations of brave souls have defended the Great Experiment with their blood, sweat, toil and tears, and I am thankful to them every day of my life and, of course, to those who defend us today, in this moment.  Our part?  To keep on working toward the highest and best America we can conceive of.
We, the people…
We can do this.  We can do whatever we need to do.
And now I’ll jump down off my soapbox–but not before I say it once again.
Happy Independence Day.
