I Know a Guy…

I can’t, but I know a Guy.

That’s a line from a t-shirt I love to wear. In fact, I have quite a collection of what I call Jesus shirts. Some are funny—like the one where Jesus is looking over the top of His sunglasses and saying, “I’m telling Dad.” Another shows the lyrics of an amazing song, “I Can Only Imagine.”

Once, while I was still doing the TMS treatments at a local hospital, I chose to wear one that said, “Don’t sit at tables Jesus would have flipped.” Good advice for anybody, I think. An older man passed me in the entryway, stopped, pointed at my shirt, and said, “Bingo!”

Another one had a Cross on the front and “Jesus Has My Back” on the reverse side. My daughter, son-in-law and I were leaving a local restaurant when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned and saw a couple, smiling gently. The man said, “If it weren’t for Him, I wouldn’t even have a back.” I didn’t ask for an explanation; I didn’t need one.

Why do I love wearing those shirts? Not because I plan to preach to anybody. I just want folks to know that if they want to talk about my Beloved Lord with me, the door’s wide open. I’ll listen.

Just as He listens. Always.
