I’m in the plotting stage of writing my next novel, tentatively titled THE REFUGE, and let me tell you, I’m excited. And grateful.
Grateful because I was blocked and burned out for several years, and the results were discouraging, to say the least. Depression can be brutal, as I’m sure many of you already know, and while we’re in the grip of it, it’s hard to believe the struggle will ever end.
It will, if you stop hiding out in your own head, behind walls of hurt and worry, resentment and disappointment, and step out into the sunshine.
Do I mean literal sunshine? Yes, in part, if you are fortunate enough to live in a bright, warm climate, as I am, since I now reside in the San Diego area, but in a more important way, I mean mental sunshine. Spiritual sunshine.
For me, that means spending quiet time in the Presence of my Lord Jesus, not asking Him for things, not complaining, whining or yelling, just being silent. When I do this, I am soon surrounded by the best possible kind of Light—His.
Resting in His Light soothes me in ways I cannot fully describe.
If you’re depressed, or grieved, or afraid, or all of those things, give it a try.
Sit quietly with God. Let Him do the talking. Or simply rest in the Light and the silence.
